Introduction

Xdepe's outdoor electrical enclosures have officially completed IP67 protection testing in accordance with IEC 60529 standards. The evaluation was conducted and certified by an independent third-party testing laboratory, confirming complete dust protection and resistance to temporary water immersion.

The certified product range includes custom low-voltage control panels, PLC/VFD cabinets, and power distribution boxes configured for outdoor utility, marine, and industrial applications.


Understanding IP67: IP65 vs IP66 vs IP67

The Ingress Protection (IP) standard uses two numbers to classify enclosure sealing performance. The first digit (6) indicates complete protection against solid dust ingress. The second digit (7) certifies that the cabinet prevents water entry when submerged in fresh water at a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Unlike IP65 and IP66 enclosures, which are tested against low and high-pressure directional water jets, IP67 enclosures are rated for temporary submersion. This makes them suitable for installations exposed to standing water, heavy rain, or high water levels.

● Dust Chamber Test: Enclosures were placed in a circulating dust environment for 8 hours under internal negative pressure, resulting in zero dust accumulation inside the cabinet.

● Water Immersion Test: Sealed units were submerged under 1 meter of fresh water for 30 minutes. Subsequent internal inspection verified zero water penetration.

● Electrical Safety Verification: Post-test insulation resistance and dielectric testing confirmed that internal electrical isolation remained fully intact.

Structural Engineering for IP67 Sealing

Achieving an IP67 seal relies on specific manufacturing controls and enclosure design choices:

● Poured-in-Place Polyurethane Gasket: A continuous polyurethane gasket is applied along the inner door channel using automated CNC foaming equipment to ensure even compression.

● Multi-Point Latching: 3-point or 4-point door locking mechanisms distribute clamping force evenly across the gasket surface to prevent edge deflection.

● Seamless Welded Enclosures: Outer enclosure seams are continuously welded and ground smooth to eliminate micro-gaps along joint corners.

● IP67 Cable Entry System: Cable glands and entry plates are fitted with matched seals and thread O-rings to maintain the ingress rating at wire penetration points.

Material Options for Corrosive Environments

In addition to liquid sealing, long-term enclosure durability depends on selecting housing materials compatible with local site conditions.

Xdepe offers IP67 enclosures in 304 and 316L stainless steel, as well as powder-coated galvanized steel. Grade 316L stainless steel is recommended for marine and chemical processing environments where airborne salts or chemical vapors cause surface corrosion on standard metals.
